Going Full TimeUp until this year, I'd been splitting my time between my own photography, and assisting other photographers. The three years I spent assisting other photographers shaped who I am as a professional. I took what I learned from the dozens of internationally recognized photographers I worked for, and applied it to my business. Year one was not what I expected. It was filled with tons of incredible experiences, and just as many setbacks.
Help Portrait 2016/Portrait CharityI've never been able to be a part of Help Portrait until this year. The brain-child of Jeremy Cowart brings together the less fortunate, and local photographers to create portraits for the patrons and their families. I was so blessed by the people who came to my booth, and hearing their stories broke my heart, while giving me so much hope all at once.
#50FlowerChallengeMy friends dreamt up an idea to go around downtown handing out free flowers as an act of kindness shortly after the election. It's been a tough year for everyone and we decided Nashville could use a little love.
Watched my best friend get marriedMy long time friend and room mate finally got hitched. I'd never been a best man before, but I don't think I completely ruined the speech, so mission accomplished.
Travel TimeOne of the best things about being a photographer is the opportunity to travel. I didn't get to head out to any of the destinations on my bucket list, but that'll come soon I'm sure.
Led Nashville's Hasselblad DemoThe studio I work out of was chosen to host a full day demo of Hasselblad's incredible new camera. I was tasked with helping organize and plan the event, and got a first hand look at the new camera before it came out. It rocks.
Survived Another Nashville WinterWinter and Nashville may not make sense to you, but I assure you its worse than it sounds. I spent 21 years in the north, enduring "real" winters and I would take those over Nashville winters any day. No one here knows how to drive in snow. I was housebound for 3 days because no one came to plow our road!
FeaturesI didn't meet my goal of shooting a cover this year, but I had plenty of smaller spreads and features in a few different publications and blogs. Moving that goal to 2017, its happening.
First Intern + ExpansionEmily has been working for me full time for two years now, but we decided she needed an extra hand on set. I ended up hiring my now good friend Desiree to come help, learn and grow on set with us.
Survived the 2016 ElectionI don't have much to say here, it was a weird election but I'm still here and still bleed that red white and blue.
Diversifying my styleMy passion in photography has always been dark, moody and experimental portraiture. My entire portfolio in 2015 was more or less this look, but I saw a need to learn how to shoot a wider variety of images. This year I focused on shooting more lifestyle, less studio work, and all around lighter-feeling images.
Played a LOT of Pokemon GoOk. I'm a 90s baby, and this craze hit me hard over the summer. After shoots or after work days in the office, I'd crawl around Nashville for hours hunting down those rare Pokemon.
